Fundamentals & Safety
Introduction to HVAC systems, system components, how air conditioning works, major heating components, basic tools, OSHA 10 construction safety, hazard communication, PPE, fall protection, electrical safety, fire safety, emergency response, compressed gas safety, and workplace safety culture.

Simulation-Based Training & Virtual Practice
The HVAC Technician program includes simulation-based learning and online virtual reality components to help students connect classroom concepts with practical job scenarios. Students can reinforce topics such as HVAC system operation, troubleshooting logic, gas furnace sequence of operations, electric furnace concepts, safety awareness, and basic diagnostic thinking in a guided online environment. These simulations are designed to strengthen understanding before students enter employer-specific field training or supervised hands-on work.

Develop a working understanding of HVAC systems, heating and cooling components, refrigeration principles, electrical systems, wiring diagrams, motors, thermostats, compressors, evaporators, condensers, and basic troubleshooting.
Safety & Compliance Awareness
Build safety awareness through OSHA-related training, compressed gas safety, electrical safety, PPE, hazard recognition, and safe work habits. EPA Section 608 preparation helps students understand refrigerant-handling requirements and exam topics.
EPA rules require technicians who maintain, service, repair, or dispose of equipment that could release refrigerants to be certified, and certification requires passing an EPA-approved test administered by an approved certifying organization.

Entry-Level HVAC Technician Trainee
Some employers may consider candidates who have completed foundational training and certification preparation, especially when paired with safety awareness, EPA Section 608 preparation, NATE Ready to Work preparation, and willingness to continue learning under experienced technicians.
Maintenance Helper / Building Maintenance Assistant

HVAC is a practical, technical trade that now requires more than mechanical ability. Today’s workers need safety awareness, electrical understanding, refrigeration knowledge, diagnostic thinking, tool familiarity, customer communication, and the ability to keep learning as equipment and regulations change. Certification preparation helps students build and show that foundation before entering or advancing in the field. Credentials such as EPA Section 608, OSHA 10, and NATE Ready to Work preparation do not replace hands-on experience, but they can help students understand industry expectations, strengthen their employment profile, and become more prepared for helper, apprentice-type, trainee, or advancement-oriented opportunities.
A note for prospective students: This program awards a Certificate of Completion and prepares students for entry-level HVAC-related opportunities and applicable industry-recognized exams. HVAC is a practical trade where real skill is built through continued training, supervised work, and field experience. At the same time, credentials such as EPA Section 608, OSHA safety training, and NATE Ready-to-Work preparation can help students show employers that they have studied safety, refrigerant-handling rules, HVAC fundamentals, and entry-level technical concepts before stepping into the field. Roles such as licensed HVAC contractor, independent HVAC contractor, or fully qualified service technician typically require additional licensing, documented field experience, and years of supervised work. In Texas, HVAC technicians who assist a licensed contractor with maintenance or repair work must generally register with TDLR and work under a licensed ACR contractor. Texas Training School encourages all students to review the specific requirements for any role or state in which they plan to work.
